Training runs from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM. You must attend each course in its entirety to receive credit for the course.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
Ethics and Laws for the Helping Professional
At the completion of this presentation, each participant will be able to:
- Discuss Florida Statutes Chapters 490 and 491 and recent changes in the laws
- Discuss F.A.C. 64B19 and 64B4 which regulate professionals under Chapters 490 and 491
- Identify situations in professional practice which could lead to violations of the APA Code of Professional Conduct
- Identify which acts or omissions constitute ethical misconduct in mental health practice
Preventing Medical Errors
At the completion of this presentation, each participant will be able to:
- Define medical errors, sentinel events and root cause analysis
- Describe current strategies that the Joint Commission has laid out to prevent medical errors
- Define the roles of a patient in preventing medical errors
- Defne strategies for medical and mental health practitioners to prevent errors, in particular the challenges of engaging patients/clients across many languages and cultures.
Domestic Violence Update
At the completion of this presentation, each participant will be able to:
- Discuss new legislation regarding domestic violence
- Discuss the factors that contribute to victims staying with batterers
- Diagnose batterers
- Describe the challenges that victims of abuse with chemical dependency and mental illness may face
- Describe the dynamics of sexual assault
- Conduct a lethality assessment
- Describe and discuss when and how to treat violence, and when to refer
- Help client conduct safety plan
- Discuss past and present efforts for prevention of IPV
